Protection

Packaging and protection

A marble murti can travel thousands of kilometres by road, air and sea. Good packing is what makes sure it arrives as it left.

Short answer

How are marble murtis protected in transit?

Every murti is packed by our own specialised packing team, following industrial export packing standards. The packing is chosen for each piece according to its size, weight and delicacy, so that it reaches you safely.

What good packing protects against

  • Impact: drops and knocks during handling, which can chip fingers, crowns, flutes and other projecting details.
  • Movement: a murti that can shift inside its packaging can be damaged even without a fall.
  • Pressure: other freight stacked on top of the package.
  • Moisture: damp during long sea journeys can mark packing materials and stone.

Wooden crates and customs

Solid wood packaging used in international trade is generally required to meet ISPM 15, an international standard under which the wood is heat-treated or fumigated and stamped with a recognised mark. Some countries, such as Australia and New Zealand, inspect packaging materials particularly closely. Plywood and other processed wood products are generally exempt.

FAQ

Common questions

How should I unpack my murti?

Open the package on the floor, remove the packing slowly, and lift the murti by its base rather than by the arms, head or any projecting details. Keep the packaging until you have checked the murti carefully.

What should I do if the package looks damaged on arrival?

Note the damage with the delivery driver or carrier if you can, photograph the packaging before and while you open it, and contact us promptly with the photographs.
