Radha and Krishna worshipped together

Radha and Krishna together are traditionally seen as an expression of divine love and devotion. In many Vaishnava traditions the pair is worshipped as inseparable, and a Radha Krishna murti is often the central focus of a home mandir or temple altar.

Separate murtis or a single base

  • Separate murtis: Radha and Krishna are carved as two individual pieces. Each can be dressed, bathed and moved on its own, which is common in temples and in homes with daily seva.
  • Single base: both figures are carved together on one base. This keeps the pair aligned and is often simpler to display, though the whole piece must be lifted and cleaned as one.
  • Krishna is usually shown playing the flute in the tribhanga pose, with Radha beside him, often with one hand raised in blessing or holding a lotus.

Matching heights and proportions

In most traditional pairs Radha is carved slightly shorter than Krishna, and the two are designed to be seen side by side. If you are buying separate murtis, it is best to buy them as a matched pair rather than combining pieces from different sources, since small differences in face, finish and scale become noticeable once they stand together.

Poshak and ornaments

Many families dress their marble Radha Krishna in poshak, crowns and jewellery, changing them for festivals such as Janmashtami, Radhashtami and Holi. If you plan to dress the murtis, ask for their exact heights and widths so that clothing can be sized, and consider whether you prefer detailed carved clothing that stays visible or a simpler form intended to be dressed.

FAQ

Radha Krishna murti questions

On which side should Radha stand?

Radha is most commonly placed on Krishna's left, which appears on the viewer's right when facing the murtis. Some traditions differ, so it is worth following your family's practice or asking your priest.

Is a single-base Radha Krishna murti suitable for daily puja?

Many families use single-base murtis for daily worship. Separate murtis can be easier if you bathe or dress each deity individually. The right choice depends on your routine and your tradition.

Can a Radha Krishna pair be shipped outside India?
