What a Ram Darbar represents

A Ram Darbar depicts Shri Ram's royal court after his return to Ayodhya: Ram with Sita, his brother Lakshman, and Hanuman in devotion at their feet. It is traditionally seen as an image of dharma, loyalty and devotion, and many families keep it as the main murti of their home mandir, especially for Ram Navami, Diwali and recitations of the Ramayana or Ramcharitmanas.

The figures and their usual arrangement

  • Ram at the centre, usually holding his bow (kodanda) and arrow, often with one hand raised in blessing.
  • Sita beside Ram, most often on his left, frequently holding a lotus.
  • Lakshman standing on Ram's other side, usually also carrying a bow.
  • Hanuman kneeling or seated at the front with hands folded, looking up towards Ram and Sita.
  • Some larger darbars also include Ram's other brothers, Bharat and Shatrughna.

Single-base set or individual murtis

A single-base Ram Darbar has all the figures carved together, which keeps the arrangement fixed and makes the set easy to display. Individual murtis allow each deity to be bathed, dressed and positioned separately, which many temples and families with daily seva prefer. Individual murtis take up more width, so measure your mandir carefully.

Proportions within the set

In a traditional Ram Darbar, Ram is usually the tallest figure, with Sita and Lakshman slightly shorter, and Hanuman smaller because he kneels. When buying individual murtis, choose pieces made together as a set so that faces, finish and scale match. If you want to add a figure to an existing set, share its measurements and photographs when you enquire.

FAQ

Ram Darbar murti questions

Where does Sita stand in a Ram Darbar?

Sita is most commonly shown on Ram's left, with Lakshman on his right and Hanuman kneeling in front. Arrangements can differ between traditions and artists, so follow your family's practice or your priest's guidance.

Is a single-base Ram Darbar suitable for daily puja?

Many families worship a single-base Ram Darbar daily. Individual murtis can be easier if you bathe or dress each deity separately. The right choice depends on your routine and tradition.

Can a Ram Darbar set be shipped outside India?

Please see our international shipping page for the current arrangements, or ask us for a shipping quote for your country and the set you are interested in.
